The territory of the Province of  Ferrara, which was once hostile and unsettled due to the presence of large marshlands, was subsequently settled thanks to the execution of extensive land reclamations which were carried out from the Renaissance up to the first half of the XX Century.

All over the centuries, local inhabitants have always exploited the most important resource of the territory: the river Po and its delta.
It is still possible to admire precious finds which bear witness to the way of life and usages and customs of the ancient civilizations that settled the territory five centuries ago.

These finds, that is to say the so-called Delizie Estensi and the Park of the Po Delta, have been declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites and are the pivotal points of the whole Province of Ferrara.

The special recognition UNESCO awarded Ferrara and the Po Delta makes the whole territory one of the most important historical, artistic and cultural sites in Italy.

A territory built by men, who over the course of the centuries have shaped it, exploited it and preserved it; a territory where natural disasters resulted in the creation of charming, peculiar landscapes; a territory which still retains the fascination which once inspired artists, craftsmen, intellectuals, peasants, fishermen, hunters, religious people and powerful rulers.

Ferrara has been declared UNESCO World Heritage Site.
